Fritz

I drew this car that's "out to pasture" at my in-laws' house.  I drew the car first in pencil and then inked it, then I did the background straight ahead in ink.  I painted it with my iPad using Sketchclub.  The coloring turned out a lot better that I had hoped for.

Enjoy!

Of Mice and Men

Another older picture; about 3 years ago I read Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck.  I was so captured by the imagery of the characters that I decided to draw all the major players in the story.  I'm not completely happy with some of the characters but I'm still satisified 3 years later with others, especially Whit, Carlson, and Candy.

I drew them in pencil first from photos of myself posing and then used a ball point pen.  I scanned and colored it in Photoshop.  Enjoy!

Welcome

Welcome to my sketch-blog!

So many artists that I admire have blogs in which they share their pictures with the world.  I find it fun and inspiring to look at other people's art, especially when they include descriptions of how or why they went about creating their images.  With this in mind and with some friendly insistence from a colleague, I was persuaded to create my own blog.  I hope the images that I post bring to you some of that wonder and inspiration that so many other artists have brought to me with their work.

I'll start the blog with three pictures that I drew a couple years ago for contests that were themed after the mythical liger.  The themes were, obviously, a Hamuar, a Hedgehawk, and a Crabbit.  I did these in pencil (and afterwards ink for the Crabbit) and used a lot of animal reference for these.  The Hedgehawk was a bit of an experiment in how much detail my patience would allow me to put into the nest.

Enjoy!
